Relationship between Zeng and Shui(水)

The connection between Zeng and Shui is rather ambiguous. The relationship is a controvicious and there are many debate on this subject.

The main cause for the debate is because the possible connection for the 2 family happen in pre-historic period. In addition, there are different vesion of how the Shui family get their name.

There are three vesion for the origine of the Shui family:

 1)             Shui水family are decendent of Yu禹,As Yu was acredited for his contribution to stop the flood, his decendent use Shui, meaning “Water” as their family name. Based on this theory, Zeng and Shui are both decendent of Yu.

2)             Shui水is a name for an official role.The decendend of someone who was appointed the role use that as their family name.

3)             Shui's was originally from the family Shui Qiu水邱氏。Their decendend change their name to Shui水。

Out of the 3 version, only version have in someway related to Zeng's family. It is therefore not common to find people link the 2 family togather.
